The Client List

Build a personalized dashboard to view, organize, and store all client information.

Updated over a week ago

The client list is the first page shown when logging into Double. It can be thought of as a high-level dashboard of all clients and closes.

Utilize the client list to see a high-level overview of the following items, and more:

Default view

The client list contains a Default view that shows all Latest Close periods. The Default saved view cannot be edited or deleted.

Special filters

Open & all closes

To stay on top of closes from prior periods that may still be active, the client list can also be filtered to show All Open Closes or All Closes under Special Filters.

Filter by close status

Filter for all closes with a specific status:

  • Incomplete (status other than Done)

  • Complete (status is Done)

  • Not on latest (latest close period is not recent)

  • Overdue (close due date is past today's date)

Filter by question status

Filter the client list to show all clients with a specific client portal categorization:

  • All answered (all questions are resolved)

  • Any answered (at least 1 question has been responded to by the client)

  • None answered (all questions are waiting on client)

  • Questions from client (optional setting - counts active inbound questions)

Filter by type

Filter the client list to show all client integration types:

  • QBO (connected)

  • Xero (connected)

  • Unconnected

Filter by frequency

Filter the client list to show exclusively the monthly or quarterly clients.

Historical closes & cleanups

To review historical closes or create previous close periods from the client list, click the arrow to the left of the client’s name. This allows all historical closes to be viewed, as well as closes from older periods to be started.

For example, for a 2024 cleanup...

  • Select the arrow next to the client's name

  • Click Create Previous Closes

  • Choose December 2024

This would create a December close. In that close, you can run all the reports contextualized to that date range (Jan '20 - Dec '20).

For more info on cleanups, see our best practices guide 👉 Cleanups

Customizing views & filtering

Double allows for users to filter their client list and save those dashboard configurations for later.

Adding or removing columns

Edit which columns are shown on the client list view by clicking Edit columns at the top of the client list.

Filtering client list columns

Filter the contents of each column on the client list.

Filtering for close period columns

When filtering for specific close periods, make sure to first apply special filters such as "all open closes" or "all existing closes" to show the most results in the column filter.

Latest published financials

Clients’ latest published financials can be viewed directly from the Client List by adding the “Latest published financial report” column to any view. Selecting the cell allows the report to be read as well.

  • Choose Edit columns

  • Enable any of the options under the Financials column options

Task quick view

If any cell on the Client List is selected, all tasks in that section are shown.

Tasks: Adding and updating from the client list

On the client list, tasks are sorted into columns by section. Selecting the corresponding cell displays the list of tasks. From there, statuses can be selected from the dropdown menu to the right of each task.

Add tasks to your clients' closes directly from the client list. Click into the desired cell and click + Add Task.

Client properties and saved views

Client Properties can be added to the client list to provide more information about clients.

How to Delete a Saved View

  1. Click More Options (three dots) next to the 'Closes' filters

  2. Click Delete from the dropdown menu

Saved views can only be deleted or updated by the original creator of the view. Super admin users can override this rule and delete or update any public views without being the original creator.

Kanban view

If Close Statuses are enabled, closes can be viewed on a Kanban board to provide a more visual sense of the status of each client’s close.

Practice Settings: Client list preferences

Within Practice Settings, admins can customize preferences for:

  • Default client list row count

  • Client list done status highlight rules (control when the client’s row turns green)

To access these settings, go to Practice Settings > Practice Management > Workflow.

Create new closes for all clients

The current and upcoming close periods can be created in bulk by clicking the Create Close button at the top right of the client list.
