In Double, any question not tied to a specific transaction is considered a non-transaction question.
These can include one-time questions, recurring requests (like bank statements), or vendor detail inquiries from the Prepare 1099s report.
Non-transaction questions can be organized using custom tags and marked as resolved once completed.
Asking non-transaction questions
The Client Communication tab
Asking a non-transaction question and posting it to the client portal is easy:
Click the Client Questions tile at the top of the close page
Navigate to the Non-transaction questions tab
Click + Add question
Add details as needed, then click "Send"
Check "Notify client" to trigger an email notification to the contact as it posts.
The Chrome extension
Ask non-transaction questions from anywhere in the browser by using the Double Chrome Extension.
Recurring non-transaction questions
Recurring Questions are non-transaction questions that can be scheduled to repeat on a regular cadence. They’re ideal for ongoing requests, such as collecting monthly bank statements from clients.
Once scheduled, a recurring question is automatically added to the client’s portal on the specified date.
Scheduling recurring non-transaction questions is easy:
Click the Client Questions tile at the top of the close page
Navigate to the Non-transaction questions tab
Click Recurring questions
Click "+ Add recurring question"
Enter details as needed & hit "Schedule"
Check "Notify client" to trigger a contact email notification as soon as it posts (only available with Plus subscriptions)

Non-transaction question tags
Non-transaction questions can be tagged to help keep client requests organized. Tags such as “Statement Request,” “Tax Questions,” or “Onboarding Qs” make it easy to categorize and track different types of inquiries.
These tags are also visible in the client portal, providing added clarity for clients.
Managing non-transaction question tags
Under Practice Settings
Under Client Portal, select the "Non-transaction questions" tab
Edit and remove tags as needed
Click "Add" to add more question tags
To edit an existing tag's title, click into the name cell
Edit tag colors under the "Edit color" column
Remove tags under the "Remove" column
