The Client Portal serves a secure location for file sharing and storage between bookkeepers and clients.
Files are accessible to the portal by:
Granting files access to contacts
Marking the file as visible to the portal
Files access
Enabling files access for client portal contacts allows them to view and download any files that have been made accessible to the portal.
From the client's close, go to Portal Settings
Check "Files"
Preview the portal to view the updated client portal experience!
What the client sees
Making files visible to the portal
To make an existing file visible in the Client Portal, hover the mouse curser over the file and select "Show to Client."
To share a new file, upload it to Custom Folders, then select "Show to Client" to make it visible in the portal.
Preview files visible to the client portal
To view all files that are currently visible to the client portal, go to the client's Files > Client portal tab.
Client uploads inbox
Clients can drag and drop any files directly from their client portal dashboard!
Uploaded files appear in the Client uploads inbox - the tile at the top of the close page. If you're subscribed to a client's digest notifications, you'll also get an email the moment they upload.
As the bookkeeper, you can move, download, delete, or ask questions about any file, directly from the close page > client uploads area.
To enable or disable the upload option on the client portal dashboard,
Go to Practice Settings > Client Portal
Go to the Inbound questions/files tab
Select "Show client uploads inbox"
Upload-only access
Some clients have admins, employees, or other staff who need to upload documents but shouldn't have full portal access - like viewing files or answering questions.
Setting up the right permissions ensures the client portal stays secure while giving all client contacts the access they need.
How do I give a contact upload-only access?
Create the contact without admin, tax, file, or financial access
Enable Assignable Questions
When enabled, assignable questions allows contacts to see a specific set of questions meant for them to answer.
Contacts without any questions assigned will not see any questions.
If the above are true, the contact will only have the following client portal permissions:
Logging in
Uploading documents via the Dashboard tab
