Email Notifications for Bookkeepers

Email notifications designed to keep you and your team up to date on tasks, client activity, and internal team communication.

There are two categories of Double email notifications for bookkeepers:

  1. Workflow notifications

  2. Client notifications


Workflow Notifications

Workflow Notifications are managed under your User Settings (the bubble at the top right of your Double page) under Notifications > General, and can be enabled / disabled from there.

Email notifications about your workflow include:

  • Comment tags

  • Newly assigned tasks

  • Completed sign-offs

  • Daily digests of all assigned tasks

Comment notifications

When you're @-tagged by a team member, you'll receive an email notification. Comment notification emails only send once every 15 minutes, and group all the unread comments together! If a comment is read in Double before the email sends, it will not send an email.

Assigned tasks

Any time a team member assigns you a task, you'll receive an email about those tasks.

Completed sign-offs

You'll receive instant notifications when tasks containing assigned sign-offs are marked complete.


Daily task digest emails

Every weekday, Double will send you an email with the following information:

If you are an admin, Double will also email you a list of your team's Priority tasks.


Close status notifications

Set up optional custom email notifications to automatically alert team members when a close status changes.

In your Close Status Settings, assign a specific person or role to each status — they’ll receive an email notification whenever a close moves into that status.

Enabling close status notifications (Admins only)

  1. Go to Practice Settings

  2. Select Practice Management > Workflows

  3. Scroll down to "Close status options"

  4. Enter user information into the corresponding "Notifications" cell

Notifications for your client's activity (Digest notification emails)

Once client digest notifications are enabled, Double will send you:

  • a once-daily summary of all the clients who have answered your questions in the previous day

  • an email when any files are uploaded to the portal

  • an email when any receipts are forwarded to the upload inbox (when Receipts is enabled)

There are three locations where users can enable/disable client notifications:

  1. In the client's Portal Settings > Notifications tab

  2. In your User Settings > Notifications tab

  3. (Admins only) In Practice Settings > All client settings > Digest notification emails column

To enable instant notifications as soon as the client answers a question:

  • Go to User Settings > Notifications > Client questions

  • Choose 'Enable instant notifications'

💡 Enabling instant notifications for client questions will disable the daily question digest and instead send a notification each time the client responds to a question.
