Read your Microsoft Teams chats and channel conversations from Ask Double, and send messages without leaving Double.
Once connected, Ask Double can:
List your chats and read their messages;
List your teams and channels and read channel posts;
Send a message to a chat, post in a channel, or reply to a channel post — as you.
Ask Double asks for your confirmation before it sends anything. It only sees what you can already see in Microsoft Teams: the connection doesn’t give you or Double access to anyone else’s conversations.
Getting started
Requirements (Microsoft Teams to Ask Double)
Microsoft 365 work or school account.
Personal Microsoft accounts (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com) can’t use Teams through Microsoft’s APIs, so Microsoft rejects them at sign-in.
Microsoft 365 license that includes Teams, assigned to each person who connects.
Global Administrator must approve Double for your whole organization (below). After that, everyone in your organization connects on their own.
Global administrator setup instructions
A Global Administrator must approve Double for your organization. This is a one-time step: once it’s done, nobody in your organization needs an administrator to connect.
As a Global Administrator, open this link:
https://login.microsoftonline.com/organizations/v2.0/adminconsent?client_id=1c45cb28-8ea4-450a-8014-2f307b23c22c&scope=https://graph.microsoft.com/.default&redirect_uri=https://app.doublehq.com/external-mcp/admin-consent
Sign in with your administrator account.
Review the permissions Double requests and select Accept. You’ll see a page from Double confirming your organization approved it, and you can close it.
Double requests these permissions. Each one only works on behalf of the person who connected, within what they can already access:
Permission | Why Double needs it |
Sign you in and read your profile | Identify who connected |
Maintain access to data you have given it access to | Stay connected without asking you to sign in every hour |
Read your chats | List your chats and read their messages |
Send chat messages | Send messages to your chats |
Read the names and descriptions of teams | List the teams you belong to |
Read the names and descriptions of channels | List the channels in those teams |
Read channel messages | Read channel posts |
Send channel messages | Post and reply in channels |
Access Microsoft Teams through Double | Let Double’s Teams connection act for you |
User setup instructions
All global admin setup must be done before users can set up Microsoft Teams as a connector tool in Ask Double.
In Ask Double, go to Personalization → Connectors (Quick link)
Select Add connector and choose Microsoft Teams.
Sign in with your Microsoft 365 work or school account.
You’re connected. Ask Double can now use Teams in chat and in the agents you run.
Reconnecting Microsoft Teams in Ask Double
You may be asked to sign in again from time to time, for example after a password reset or when your organization’s security policies require it. Reconnect from Personalization → Connectors; nothing is lost.
FAQs and Troubleshooting
Message: “You can’t sign in here with a personal account”
This message indicates that you are signing in with a personal Microsoft account (outlook.com, hotmail.com, live.com). Use your work or school Microsoft 365 account instead.
Message: “Need admin approval”
Your organization hasn’t approved Double yet. Ask your Global Administrator to complete the setup above. It only needs to happen once for the whole organization.
Ask Double says your Microsoft account doesn’t have a license that includes Teams
Microsoft only lets Double use Teams for people with a Microsoft 365 license that includes Teams. Ask your Microsoft 365 administrator to assign one. It can take up to an hour to take effect, and you don’t need to reconnect afterwards.
Ask Double says your administrator hasn’t approved Double’s Microsoft Teams access
Your organization’s approval is missing or out of date, for example if Double added a permission after your administrator approved it. Ask your Global Administrator to complete the setup above again.
Ask Double says Microsoft needs you to sign in again
Your organization’s security policies require you to sign in again, for example to confirm your identity with multi-factor authentication. Reconnect from Personalization → Connectors (Quick link).
Ask Double says Microsoft Teams is rate-limiting requests
Microsoft limits how quickly apps can read and send Teams messages. Wait the number of seconds Ask Double mentions, then try again.
Ask Double asked to reconnect Teams unexpectedly
This happens when Microsoft ends Double’s access, for example if your administrator changes Double’s permissions or your account’s access is removed. Reconnect from Personalization → Connectors (Quick link); nothing is lost.
Still stuck?
Contact your Double representative with the error message you see. Most Microsoft errors include a short code starting with AADSTS that pinpoints what’s missing on your organization’s side.
