Tax Returns in the Client Portal

Communicate client tax return statuses in the portal with custom permissions & tax trackers.

The Client Portal tax tracker gives clients a simple, always-up-to-date view of where their tax return is in the process. No follow ups needed, they'll see where their return is along the tax roadmap.


Enabling the tax tracker

  1. Go to Practice Settings > Practice Management

  2. Go to the Workflows tab > Tax return settings

  3. Toggle ON "Show tax tracker"

This setting is practice-wide.


Managing tax tracker statuses

Manage the tax return statuses in Practice Settings under the Workflows tab > Tax return status options > Tax tracker status.

Go to the "Internal status" tab to control which internal statuses trigger Client Portal tracker updates.

These statuses are practice-wide settings.


Client portal contact permissions

Client portal contacts must have "Tax" permissions (under Portal Settings) in order to view the following:

  • The tax tracker "Tax returns" tab

  • The auto-organized "Organizers," "Signatures," and "Tax files" folders under Files

  • Any published organizers waiting on client information

Preview the Client Portal experience at any time under the client's Portal Settings:


Attaching a filed return

Once filed, add the tax return at the top of the tax return by clicking "YYYY tax return" and then "Upload."

This will link the return attachment to the Client Portal as well as auto-organize it into the "Tax returns" folder of Double.
