Tax return statuses help the team track where each return is in the client workflow, drive team coordination, and communicate to the client through the Client Portal.
Similar to close statuses, tax return statuses are practice-wide and can be managed within Practice Settings.
Managing tax return statuses
To add, edit, and delete return statuses:
Go to Practice Settings > Practice Management
Go to the Workflows tab > Tax return status options
Choose between "Internal Statuses" or "Tax tracker status" options
Internal statuses
Similar to close statuses, tax return statuses can be customized with user notifications, custom colors, and reordered.
Add tax assignees or specific users under "Notify" to have these users notified any time a return is put into that specific status.
The tax tracker status column under "Internal status" will show the corresponding Client Portal tax tracker status once the return status changes internally.
Edit each status under the "Actions" column
Default internal tax return statuses (Not started, In progress, and Filed) are unable to be deleted.

Tax tracker status (Client-facing)
Enable a tax tracker for your clients' Client Portal under Tax return settings > "Show tax tracker."
Manage the tax return statuses in Practice Settings under the Workflows tab > Tax return status options > Tax tracker status.
The tax tracker is only shown for client portal contacts with "Tax access." More on contact access here.
Tax status email notifications
If any roles or users are listed under Internal status > Notify columns, they'll receive an instant email notification the moment a return is set to that status in Double.

Once filed, add the tax return at the top of the tax return by clicking "YYYY tax return" and then "Upload."
