What are Connections?
Almost everything you need is already in Double. But every so often there's one piece that isn't — a Slack thread, a note in Notion, something in your CRM. Connections let Ask Double reach those tools directly.
For example:
"I'm meeting with this client in 10 minutes. Catch me up on what we've discussed recently."
"Pull current headcount from our payroll tracker and add it as a metrics variable."
"What's the deal stage and last activity for this client in HubSpot?"
Three connectors are available today — Slack, Notion, and HubSpot — with more on the way.
Connections are built on MCP (Model Context Protocol), the open standard for connecting AI assistants to outside systems. Each connection is an MCP server, and the read and write tools listed under it are that server's MCP tools.

Adding a connection
Go to Ask Double → Personalization → Connections, click + Add connection, choose a tool, and complete its sign-in flow. Tools you've already connected won't appear in the list. If sign-in fails or you cancel, nothing is added — just try again.
Connections are per-user. A connection you add is visible and editable only to you — teammates don't see it, even on the same client, and each person connects their own. It also inherits your permissions in that tool, so Ask Double can only do what your account can already do there.
Managing a connection
Each connection shows its name, an on/off toggle, and a … menu.
Action | What it does |
Toggle off | Makes the connection unavailable to Ask Double without removing it. |
Reconnect | Runs the sign-in flow again — use this if access expired or permissions changed. |
Disconnect | Removes the connection. You'll be asked to confirm. |
If access is revoked or expires on the other tool's side, the connection shows a reconnect state rather than failing quietly.
Controlling what Ask Double can do
Click the chevron on a connection to see the tools it provides, grouped into Read tools (searching, reading, listing) and Write tools (sending, creating, updating). The number beside each heading is how many tools that group contains. Every tool falls in exactly one group, so you always know whether you're allowing Ask Double to look or to act.
Each tool has three settings, shown as icons at the right of its row:

Hand | Always ask | Ask Double requests approval before each call. Declining just continues the chat. |
Circle with a slash | Blocked | Ask Double can't use the tool at all. |
Use the dropdown in a group's header to set every tool in that group at once, then adjust individual tools from there. A common setup is Always allow for reads and Always ask for writes — Ask Double can go find context on its own, but checks with you before it changes anything.
Changes take effect immediately, including in open chats — no need to reconnect.
FAQ
Does Double support MCP?
Yes — Connections are MCP connections. Each one is a managed MCP server, and the read and write tools under it are its MCP tools.
Can I connect my own MCP server?
Not yet. Only the connectors listed in Double are available today.
What if I ask for something using a blocked tool?
It won't run — Ask Double will let you know the tool isn't available.
Can Ask Double delete things?
Only where a tool exposes a delete action and you've set it to allow. None of the connectors available today expose delete actions.
Can my firm share one connection?
No — each teammate adds their own.
