Client vs. Client Portal Contact

What these common terms mean in Double

Double terminology

  • Client: a business or company

  • Contact: a person, typically the business owner that has an email they use to access the Client Portal

Basic functionality: Clients vs contacts

Clients

All businesses listed on the client list are termed "clients" in Double.

Add, delete, or archive a client (business) from the client list.

Rules

  • Adding a new client WILL NOT also create a contact

  • Deleting a client WILL NOT delete the associated contact(s)

    • WHY? A contact (person) can be associated to more than one client (business) in Double

Contacts

All people associated with a client (business) in Double are termed "contacts."

Add & delete contacts in TWO locations

  1. Practice Settings > Client Portal > All Contacts (Admins only)

  2. The client's close page > Portal Settings > Contacts tab

Rules

  • Adding a contact does not automatically notify the person that they have been added in Double

  • Adding a contact does not automatically create a new client (business)

  • Contacts must be associated with at least 1 client in order to access the client portal

  • Deleting a contact removes the contact's association with the client and revokes that email's client portal access.
