Prompt Ask Double to create or edit a spreadsheet.
When the spreadsheet is ready, click the spreadsheet chip in the conversation.
The spreadsheet opens in a panel on the right side of the chat.
Make changes directly in the spreadsheet, or continue prompting Ask Double to update it for you.
To download the spreadsheet, click Download.
To close the spreadsheet, click X.
What to expect in the spreadsheet editor
When a spreadsheet is open in Ask Double:
The spreadsheet opens in a right-side panel
The panel shows the file name, save status, download button, full-screen button, and close button
Changes save automatically, so there is no manual **Save** button
The spreadsheet chip stays connected to the latest relevant assistant response when Ask Double makes new edits
Long spreadsheet names are shortened to fit in the chip
Using full screen
1. Open a spreadsheet in Ask Double.
2. Click the full-screen button in the spreadsheet header.
3. To return to the standard view, click the exit full-screen button.
Good to know:
Pressing Escape exits full screen first
If you are editing a cell, Escape cancels the cell edit instead of closing Ask Double
How saving works
Your spreadsheet saves automatically while you work.
You may see:
Saving... while changes are being saved
Saved when the spreadsheet is up to date
Ask Double also keeps saved spreadsheets available when you reopen the conversation later.
Supported files
Double supports spreadsheet editing for common spreadsheet attachments, including:
.xlsx
.xls
.csv
When you open a supported spreadsheet attachment in Double, it opens in the spreadsheet editor instead of the older read-only preview.
Editing spreadsheet attachments in Double
Open a supported spreadsheet attachment from Double.
If spreadsheet editing is available for that file, it opens in the spreadsheet editor.
Make your changes directly in the file.
Wait for the save status to show Saved, or close the editor to let Double finish saving changes.
Reopen the attachment later to confirm your updates.
Notes
Some spreadsheet experiences may still be read-only in parts of the product that have not been updated yet
If a spreadsheet is already saved in a conversation, reopening it loads the latest saved version
Troubleshooting
If a spreadsheet looks blank after you ask Ask Double to create one:
Try asking again in the same conversation
Reopen the spreadsheet chip after a few seconds
If the issue continues, contact support with the conversation and a short description of what you asked Ask Double to build
If your file does not open in the spreadsheet editor:
Confirm the file is a supported spreadsheet format
Try downloading and reopening the file
If the file is very old or unusually formatted, contact support
AI workpapers
AI workpapers are the Excel analysis Ask Double produces when it reconciles an account balance to its support. You point Ask Double at an account and its supporting documentation, and Ask Double does the tie-out work for you and shows it in a live spreadsheet.
The support is the documentation that backs up the balance, such as a bank statement, a schedule, an invoice, or a report. It can be a file that is already attached in Double, or a file you upload during the process.
When Ask Double builds a workpaper, it creates the analysis as a live spreadsheet, either:
a new spreadsheet file, or
a new tab in an existing spreadsheet file
You can open the workpaper in the spreadsheet editor, review the tie-out, edit it directly, and download it, just like any other spreadsheet in Ask Double.
What a workpaper contains
A typical AI workpaper lays out the reconciliation so anyone reviewing it can follow the logic. Depending on the account and the support provided, it generally includes:
The account balance being reconciled
The supporting amounts pulled from the attached or uploaded support
A comparison of the balance to the support
Any difference or variance between the two
Notes or references that show how each figure was derived
Because the workpaper is a live spreadsheet, the formulas and layout stay editable, so you can adjust it or keep prompting Ask Double to refine the analysis.
Starting AI workpapers
You can start a workpaper in two ways.
From Ask Double - in the top right corner or Ctrl/Cmd + J
From an Account Reconciliation task
Select the Account Reconciliation task for the account you want to reconcile.
Click the Ask Double button on the task.
Providing the support
Ask Double reconciles the balance against whatever support you give it, so make sure the right documentation is available:
Already attached — If the supporting file is attached to the conversation or the task, Ask Double can use it directly.
Uploaded during the process — If the support is not attached yet, upload it when you start the workpaper so Ask Double has something to reconcile against.
For the most accurate results, provide support that clearly shows the ending balance or detail for the period you are reconciling.
