Live Spreadsheets in Ask Double

Use Ask Double to create, open, edit, and download spreadsheets without leaving the chat. You can also open supported spreadsheet attachments in Double and edit them in the same spreadsheet editor.

What you can do

With the spreadsheet editor, you can:

  • Ask Double to create a new spreadsheet from scratch

  • Open a spreadsheet from the chat in a side panel

  • Edit spreadsheet cells manually

  • Download the current spreadsheet as an Excel file

  • Reopen a spreadsheet later and continue where you left off

  • Open supported spreadsheet attachments elsewhere in Double and edit them in place

Using spreadsheets in Ask Double

  1. Open Ask Double.

  2. Prompt Ask Double to create or edit a spreadsheet.

  3. When the spreadsheet is ready, click the spreadsheet chip in the conversation.

  4. The spreadsheet opens in a panel on the right side of the chat.

  5. Make changes directly in the spreadsheet, or continue prompting Ask Double to update it for you.

  6. To download the spreadsheet, click Download.

  7. To close the spreadsheet, click X.

What to expect in the spreadsheet editor

When a spreadsheet is open in Ask Double:

  • The spreadsheet opens in a right-side panel

  • The panel shows the file name, save status, download button, full-screen button, and close button

  • Changes save automatically, so there is no manual **Save** button

  • The spreadsheet chip stays connected to the latest relevant assistant response when Ask Double makes new edits

  • Long spreadsheet names are shortened to fit in the chip

Using full screen

1. Open a spreadsheet in Ask Double.

2. Click the full-screen button in the spreadsheet header.

3. To return to the standard view, click the exit full-screen button.

Good to know:

  • Pressing Escape exits full screen first

  • If you are editing a cell, Escape cancels the cell edit instead of closing Ask Double

How saving works

Your spreadsheet saves automatically while you work.

You may see:

  • Saving... while changes are being saved

  • Saved when the spreadsheet is up to date

Ask Double also keeps saved spreadsheets available when you reopen the conversation later.

Supported files

Double supports spreadsheet editing for common spreadsheet attachments, including:

  • .xlsx

  • .xls

  • .csv

When you open a supported spreadsheet attachment in Double, it opens in the spreadsheet editor instead of the older read-only preview.

Editing spreadsheet attachments in Double

  1. Open a supported spreadsheet attachment from Double.

  2. If spreadsheet editing is available for that file, it opens in the spreadsheet editor.

  3. Make your changes directly in the file.

  4. Wait for the save status to show Saved, or close the editor to let Double finish saving changes.

  5. Reopen the attachment later to confirm your updates.

Notes

  • Some spreadsheet experiences may still be read-only in parts of the product that have not been updated yet

  • If a spreadsheet is already saved in a conversation, reopening it loads the latest saved version

Troubleshooting

If a spreadsheet looks blank after you ask Ask Double to create one:

  • Try asking again in the same conversation

  • Reopen the spreadsheet chip after a few seconds

  • If the issue continues, contact support with the conversation and a short description of what you asked Ask Double to build

If your file does not open in the spreadsheet editor:

  • Confirm the file is a supported spreadsheet format

  • Try downloading and reopening the file

  • If the file is very old or unusually formatted, contact support
